Our work in London
The south-east of London is our nearest part of the city, with Bexleyheath about 25 miles away and Bromley about 26, so boroughs such as Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich are the easiest for us to reach. Further in, parking and access can shape a job as much as the windows do, so tell us about them when you get in touch.
Our new-build side also supplies and fits windows, doors, curtain walling and shop fronts for developers working in London.
London homes and the windows that suit them
A great deal of London’s housing is Victorian and Edwardian, rows of terraces and villas whose sash windows, bay fronts and panelled doors give each street its character. Replacing worn sashes or tired double glazing with sliding sash windows that look like the originals is a good way to improve both the look and the warmth of these houses.
The capital also has a vast number of flats, from Victorian conversions to modern blocks, and 20th-century suburbs whose houses suit modern uPVC or aluminium casements, composite front doors and bi-folds. Flats bring an extra step, because a leaseholder may need the landlord’s or management company’s permission before changing windows, and the freeholder may set out which styles they will accept.
Bexley, on the Kent border and one of the nearest boroughs to us, shows how the suburbs grew. It was sparsely populated until the 19th century; Albany Park and Barnehurst took their names from developments that followed the railways, while Blackfen, Lamorbey and part of Falconwood were built when large estates and farmland were broken up for housing. Thamesmead, the new town on the old Erith Marshes, reaches into the borough too.

Planning and conservation in London
London has 32 boroughs plus the City of London, and planning is decided by the one you live in. Conservation areas are common across the capital, and a borough can use Article 4 directions to bring front windows and doors on protected streets under planning control, so before replacing windows on a period house, check your borough’s conservation areas and directions.
A listed building needs listed building consent for significant work, and flats have fewer permitted development rights than houses, which can mean planning permission for changes a house owner would not need it for.
Check the rules with your London borough
Building Regulations
Whatever the planning position, new windows and doors have to meet the Building Regulations, which have covered replacement glazing since April 2002. A replacement window today needs a U-value of 1.4 or better, or a Window Energy Rating of band B, and the work has to be either self-certified by an installer registered with a competent person scheme or approved by your council’s building control team.

Questions from London homeowners
Anything else you would like to know? Call us, message us on WhatsApp or send us your question through our contact page.
Which parts of London do you cover?
The south-east boroughs closest to us are the easiest to reach, including Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich, and we cover other parts of London too. Send us your postcode and a short description, and we will tell you if it is a job we can take on.
Do you cover Sidcup, Erith and Welling?
Yes. They are among the main towns of the London Borough of Bexley, with Bexleyheath, Belvedere, Crayford and Old Bexley, and Bexley, on the Kent border, is one of the nearest parts of London to our base.
Can you fit sash windows on a London terrace?
Yes. Our sliding sash windows replicate traditional timber sashes, so they can replace worn sashes or tired double glazing on a Victorian or Edwardian terrace without spoiling the front.
Do you work with developers in London?
Yes. Our new-build side works with developers, builders and architects, and London is one of the areas it covers, for anything from replacement windows on a conversion to curtain walling on a commercial building.
