Composite Door Hardware in Maidstone & Kent

The handle, letterplate, knocker, hinges and lock are the parts of a front door you touch every day, and they shape how it looks from the street. When we fit a composite door in Maidstone or anywhere in Kent, you choose its hardware along with the colour and glass, in finishes for modern and period homes.

Hardware that suits the door

Hardware is the last thing to pick on a new front door and the first thing anyone touches. A long bar handle and a slim letterplate suit a contemporary door with clean lines, while a lever handle, a knocker and door numbers sit more naturally on a panelled door in a Victorian or Edwardian street.

Our composite doors come from Solar Calibre's Benchmark range, and its hardware is chosen to go with its door styles. There are finishes and designs for contemporary and traditional houses, and we go through them with you at the free survey, alongside the colours and the glass.

What you can choose for your door

  • Handles

A lever handle on a backplate for a traditional door, or a long bar handle for a contemporary one, in the same finish as the rest of the hardware.

  • Letterplates

A letterplate in a matching finish, wide enough for the post you get. One with an inner flap or brush helps to keep draughts out.

  • Knockers and numerals

A knocker or a set of door numbers finishes a traditional front door, and is as much a part of the look as the colour.

  • Hinges

Hinges carry the whole weight of the door each time it opens, and adjustable ones let it be set back in line if it ever starts to drop.

Locks and cylinders

A front door should lock at several points down its edge, not only in the middle. The cylinder, the part your key turns, is where many break-ins are aimed, because a weak one can be snapped in seconds, so it matters as much as the door itself.

The one to look for is an anti-snap cylinder rated TS 007 3 star or Sold Secure Diamond, the two standards the Master Locksmiths Association recommends. Ultion and Yale, two of our trusted partners, both make cylinders with these ratings, and we can talk you through the choice when we measure up.

What makes a front door secure

Hinges that keep the door in line

Composite doors are solid and heavy, and the hinges hold all of that weight every time the door swings. Good hinges keep it hanging true, so it closes against its seals and the lock lines up without a shove.

If a door has started to drop, catch on the frame or need lifting before it will lock, the hinges can usually be adjusted or replaced rather than the whole door. Door adjustments are part of our repair service.

Built for the British weather

A front door stands out in the rain, the frost and the summer sun all year round, and its hardware takes the same wear as the door.

The hardware in the range our doors come from is chosen with UK weather in mind, to resist wear, damp and changes in temperature, so it keeps working smoothly and holds its finish through the seasons.

Coastal-grade finishes

Salt in sea air is hard on metal, and an ordinary finish on a door near the coast can mark and dull sooner than one inland.

For homes by the sea or in exposed spots, there are coastal-grade hardware options made to stand up to salt corrosion. If you live on the Kent coast, from Whitstable round to Folkestone, ask us about them when we come to measure.

The names behind the range

The hardware comes from some of the most respected names in the trade, among them SFS, Stormguard, Sweet, Mila, Ultion and Yale, picked for their quality, their security and how long their parts last.

Questions about composite door hardware

Anything else you would like to know? Call us, message us on WhatsApp or send us your question through our contact page.

Can you change the handle or lock on my existing composite door?

Yes. Our repair service replaces locks, handles and locking mechanisms, so a worn handle, a stiff lock or a cylinder you want to upgrade can be changed without replacing the door.

What lock should a front door have?

A multipoint lock that bolts the door at several points, with an anti-snap cylinder rated TS 007 3 star or Sold Secure Diamond. Our guide to secure front doors explains what those ratings mean.

Do you have hardware for homes near the sea?

Yes. There are coastal-grade options made to resist salt corrosion, which are worth choosing for a house on the coast or in an exposed spot.

How do I choose the right hardware for my door?

Start with the style of the door. Bar handles and slim letterplates suit contemporary doors, while lever handles, knockers and numerals suit panelled ones. We go through the options with you at the free survey.
