Our work in Maidstone
The review below is from a Maidstone customer who has used us several times. On the latest visit we replaced window hinges, a back door lock and three misted glass units at their home, which is a useful reminder that a failed unit or a worn hinge rarely means the whole window has to go. When we replace failed or damaged glass, we keep the existing frame about 90% of the time.
We fit complete new windows, composite doors and bi-folds in the town as well, and as our About page says, our installers have worked on projects of every size in Maidstone, from single windows to large housing developments.
“I’ve used Kieran at my home in Maidstone a few times now and have always been really happy with his and his other guys work and service. … This time they replaced some window hinges, a back door lock, as well as replacing 3 misted glass units. Everything was sorted quickly and professionally, and the quality of the work was excellent.”
Maidstone homes and the windows that suit them
Maidstone is Kent’s county town and its largest, built on two hills on either side of the River Medway, and it has grown by taking in the villages around it, among them Allington, Barming, Bearsted, Penenden Heath, Sandling, Tovil and Weavering Street. Closer to the centre there are Victorian terraces and villas, and where one of them has already lost its original sashes, a sliding sash or flush sash replacement puts back the proportions the front was built with.
Further out, the estates trace the town’s growth, from Shepway, Senacre and Park Wood in the south to Grove Green and Vinters Park on the east side, and the old Oakwood Hospital site has been rebuilt as housing. On estate houses from the post-war decades onwards, the sensible upgrades are usually energy-efficient uPVC casements, a composite front door and, on the garden side, aluminium bi-folds or sliding doors. In the rural ME17 villages such as Coxheath, Boughton Monchelsea and Sutton Valence, cottages and farmhouses often call for a more traditional look.

Planning and conservation in Maidstone
Planning in the town is decided by Maidstone Borough Council, which has 41 conservation areas across the borough. In four of them, Headcorn, Lenham, Loose and Maidstone Holy Trinity, the council has also made Article 4 directions, which take away some of the permitted development rights householders would otherwise have and can mean applying for permission for changes such as new windows.
The council’s Article 4 page names each one, so check it before you order anything for a house in those areas. Around the Archbishop’s Palace and All Saints’ Church, the palace, the church, the college and the tithe barn are all Grade I listed, and work on a listed building of any grade needs consent first.

Building Regulations
Whatever the planning position, new windows and doors have to meet the Building Regulations, which have covered replacement glazing since April 2002. A replacement window today needs a U-value of 1.4 or better, or a Window Energy Rating of band B, and the work has to be either self-certified by an installer registered with a competent person scheme or approved by your council’s building control team.

Questions from Maidstone homeowners
Anything else you would like to know? Call us, message us on WhatsApp or send us your question through our contact page.
Can you fix misted double glazing in Maidstone without replacing the window?
Usually, yes. The mist forms inside the sealed unit, so we replace the unit and keep the frame, which we manage about 90% of the time. One Maidstone customer had three misted units, some hinges and a door lock put right on a single visit.
Do you cover the villages around Maidstone?
Yes. As well as the town itself, we work across the ME17 villages such as Coxheath, Boughton Monchelsea, Sutton Valence and Lenham, and out to Headcorn, Yalding and Bearsted.
Is my house in a Maidstone conservation area?
Maidstone Borough Council publishes a map for each of its 41 conservation areas on its website. If your house is in Headcorn, Lenham, Loose or the Holy Trinity area of the town, check the Article 4 direction too, because it may mean you need permission to change the windows.
