Our work in Surrey
A customer in Guildford, around 52 miles from our base, had a replacement front door delivered and fitted by us, and their review is below. As with any job, we measure up and quote first, then come back to fit once the windows or doors have been made.
On larger schemes, our new-build side works with developers in the county. If you are in Surrey and want to know whether we can take your job on, the quickest way is to call or message us with your postcode.
“Delivered and installed a replacement front door at my property in Guildford. Swift professional service and I am very pleased with the finished result.”
Surrey homes and the windows that suit them
Surrey is split east to west by the chalk of the North Downs. North of the ridge, towns such as Epsom, Staines-upon-Thames and Woking are densely built and run into Greater London, with a great deal of suburban housing that suits modern uPVC or aluminium windows, composite doors and bi-folds. South of it the county is far more rural, with the sandstone Surrey Hills in the west, the Low Weald in the east, and old villages where cottages and period houses call for flush sash or sliding sash windows.
The nearest part of Surrey to us is the east, around Oxted, Redhill and Reigate, where Surrey County Council moved its headquarters in 2021. Much of the county lies in the Metropolitan Green Belt, and in its villages and older towns almost every opening is a slightly different size, so windows are best made to measure rather than bought off the shelf. Guildford shows the range: Charlotteville, laid out in 1862, was one of the first planned suburbs in Britain, the Westborough Estate dates from the 1920s, and Stoughton’s old barracks became housing in the 1990s.

Planning and conservation in Surrey
Planning in Surrey is decided by the borough or district council for your area, such as Guildford, Woking, Tandridge or Reigate and Banstead. The Surrey Hills are a National Landscape, the name for an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty since November 2023, and designated areas like this, along with conservation areas, can have extra restrictions, so check with your council before changing the style of your windows or doors.
If you are a leaseholder in a flat, your landlord or management company may need to agree the change first, whatever the planning position.
Check the rules with your borough or district council
Building Regulations
Whatever the planning position, new windows and doors have to meet the Building Regulations, which have covered replacement glazing since April 2002. A replacement window today needs a U-value of 1.4 or better, or a Window Energy Rating of band B, and the work has to be either self-certified by an installer registered with a competent person scheme or approved by your council’s building control team.

Questions from Surrey homeowners
Anything else you would like to know? Call us, message us on WhatsApp or send us your question through our contact page.
Do you really cover Surrey from Kent?
Yes. Surrey is within the 100-mile radius we cover, and we have fitted for homeowners there, including a replacement front door for a customer in Guildford. The east of the county, around Oxted and Redhill, is under 35 miles from our base.
Do you work with developers in Surrey?
Yes. We work with developers, builders and architects across the South East, Surrey included, supplying and fitting windows, doors, curtain walling and shop fronts for new-build and commercial projects.
Can you fit windows in a Surrey conservation area?
Yes, once the council is happy with the style. In Guildford alone, the heart of Charlotteville and parts of Onslow Village are conservation areas, and flush sash or sliding sash windows that follow the existing pattern are usually the right starting point.
How do I find out if you can take my Surrey job on?
Call or message us with your postcode and a short description of the job. We will let you know whether it is one we can do, and if it is, arrange a free, no-obligation quote.
